Urinary hippuric acid excretion in everyday life.

چکیده
The biological monitoring for exposure to toluene is based on the measurement of urinary hippuric acid concentration (HA-U). In occupational health, workers exposed to toluene are examined for HA-U, because collection of urine samples is easy. The HA-U of some designers in a great household electrical products corporation who did not use toluene occupationally showed relatively high values. From statistical analyses, it was revealed that the HA-U values of the designers who lived without family members were higher than those with family members and that the values on Monday were higher than those on Friday. Some factors which elevate the HA-U level are considered in individuals living alone and/or in life at weekends. These may be to drink many soft drinks, especially low calorie ones, in which benzoic acid is used as a preservative.

Reliability of Urinary Excretion Rate Adjustment in Measurements of Hippuric Acid in Urine
The urinary excretion rate is calculated based on short-term, defined time sample collections with a known sample mass, and this measurement can be used to remove the variability in urine concentrations due to urine dilution. Adjustment to the urinary excretion rate of hippuric acid was evaluated in 31 healthy volunteers (14 males and 17 females). Urine was collected as short-term or spot sampl...
متن کاملEvaluation of Toluene Exposure in Workers at Industrial Area of Sidoarjo, Indonesia by Measurement of Urinary Hippuric Acid
Background: Toluene is a harmful substance still being used as a solvent and catalyst in many industries that can increase the level of urinary hippuric acid (UHA). This study was designed to examine the level of toluene and UHA among workers of industrial site in seven companies in Sidoarjo, Indonesia and to analyze the risk factors for abnormal UHA. Methods: This study was an analytical cross...
متن کاملToxicokinetics of toluene and urinary excretion of hippuric acid after human exposure to 2H8-toluene.
Nine male volunteers were exposed to 2H8-toluene (200 mg/m3 for two hours during a workload of 50 W) via inspiratory air with the aid of a breathing valve and mouthpiece. Labelled toluene was used to differentiate between hippuric acid originating from exposure to toluene and hippuric acid normally excreted in urine. The total uptake of toluene was 2.2 (standard deviation (SD) 0.2) mmol, or 50%...
متن کاملExposure to toluene increases the urinary excretion of D-glucaric acid.
Workers at a printing plant exposed to low concentrations of toluene (43-401 mg/m3, median 155 mg/m3) had increased urinary D-glucaric acid (3.55-5.12 mmol/mol creatinine) excretion at the end of the shift compared with controls (2.45-3.35 mmol/mol creatinine). No increase was found after the summer holiday (1.92-2.89 mmol/mol creatinine) but excretion had increased two weeks later (4.05-5.55 m...
متن کاملHippuric acid excretion after benzylamine ingestion in man.
The fate of 14C-benzylamine after oral administration as the hydrochloride has been investigated in two male volunteers. Over 98% of the administered radiolabel was excreted in the urine as 14C-hippuric acid within 24 hours. The rate of urinary hippuric acid excretion was extremely rapid, with more than 90% of the dose excreted after three hours.
